But, my fondest memories of Civ V involved expansionist AIs often Hiawatha crushing half the map, then me scrambling to build enough military units to discourage attacks for long enough for me to get into space.
Because of this, I reach the point of inevitably winning much earlier in Civ VI than Civ V, which makes the end game more boring. I rushed the americans with eagle warrios, then just sim citied and expanded. You end up with cool city spots that might have been otherwise worod by a city state, but other than that, didn' t feel too different. When most Civs play wide, they forget to build up much defenses throughout their empire.

At this level I find this usually how the AI acts. In Civ VI however, as long as I survive the early game and either settle a bunch of land or eliminate one AI player, I'll end up as the biggest empire on the map.
If you post a screenshot of the game, please point out what you want people to look at in the image or explain in the comments. So you can rush to make the venitian arsenal hell you don't even really need to rush it and pound the shit outta their cities with battleships, subs and middle cruisers, then March an infantry or tank in to claim the city. This was done failry quickly with paint, sorry if the border lines aren't too neatly done. As this map shows, most AI players in Civ VI neither expand nor conquer, and just stay small for the entire game. In Civ VI I haven't had that happen at all.

It is easier if you have teddy and pedro nearby though, they will kindly make a bunch of cities, districts azgec wonders for you, all while donating massive amounts of workers!
I don't think I'd do it again, simply because city states so bring something extra to the game, and if you want a spot, you can always war for it. Aatec to Reddit, the front page of the internet. By that I mean they never build a proper naval force. They went to war with me about 20 turns before the end.
